Gadis Melayu VS Gadis Muslimah

"Siapa bilang gadis melayu tak menawan
Tak menarik hati, tiada memikat
Kalaulah memang tak mungkin aku tertarik
Kalaulah sungguh tak mungkin aku kan jatuh

Aduhai… lemah lembut gayanya
Serta manis senyumnya
Hitam pekat rambutnya
Ayuh ambil si dia

Di antara gadis gadis seluruh dunia
Tiada yang sehalus mulus oh setulus dia
Di antara gadis gadis seluruh dunia
Tiada yang sehalus mulus oh setulus dia
Budi bahasanya, pandangan matanya
Sentuhan jiwanya membuatku terlena"

This is the lyric of Gadis Melayu; a famous song by a famous Malaysian artist. I'm not going to criticise the song's credibility or what because this time around, I want to talk about the highly anticipated battle between Gadis Melayu and Gadis Muslimah. Actually, I feel like writing this post because last night, there's a show on Malaysian TV 9. It's called Gadis Melayu. The aim of this program is to look for a "true" Gadis Melayu to be the next TV 9 host.

"Aduhai… lemah lembut gayanya
Serta manis senyumnya
Hitam pekat rambutnya
Ayuh ambil si dia"

Above lines mean;
"oh...her style is very soft and delicate,
her smile is so sweet,
and her dark black hair,
let's go and grab her"

Hello? Are those criteria only possessed by Gadis Melayu? Grab her? Are you serious? You like her because of her dark black hair? How did you know? You asked her mother? or she's not wearing a hijab? I'm confused...

According to most of the contestants and judges in the Gadis Melayu programme, the criteria of Gadis Melayu are good in cooking Malay cuisine (or at least recognise the cuisine), well-mannered, soft, has a strong character, dress in a "proper" way (according to Malay customs..)

Hijab is not a must if you want to be the contestant..
("Islam is inside my heart" said by a hijab-less contestant)

Is a hijabi (girls in hijab) better than a non-hijabi? Not necessarily so...Some girls think they wear hijab, but actually they aren't...Hijab is not a fashion tool that you can wear and take it off whenever you wanted to...wearing hijab for the sake of fashion will defeat the purpose...What I mean is, instead of safeguarding your modesty, you are drawing the attention of the opposite sex...

There are some girls who wear hijab to attract guys...
I hope you are not one of them...
Na'uzubillah...

Covering your hair ONLY is not a hijab...hijab covers ALL parts needed to be covered...yes, that means, no see-through hijab, no shape-revealing /sexy clothing...

Wear it right, for all the right reasons...

If not, you are just getting yourself nothing but discomfort... No rewards or benefits...

It's not an oppression, but as a protection and as a sign of respect to all women that they aren't objects...

Back to the topic,

"Di antara gadis gadis seluruh dunia
Tiada yang sehalus mulus oh setulus dia"

The above lines mean "out of every girls in the world, Gadis Melayu is the most delicate, soft, pure"...Is this true??? I doubt it, BIG time...because it doesn't matter whether you are Gadis Melayu or not, you can be the most delicate, soft and pure.

To me, no matter what Gadis you are, as long as you hold strong to the Islamic way of life, you are the winner...

"Siapa bilang gadis muslimah tak menawan
Tak menarik hati, tiada memikat
Kalaulah memang tak mungkin aku tertarik
Kalaulah sungguh tak mungkin aku kan jatuh

Aduhai… baik sungguh akhlaknya
Serta suci hatinya
Allah hanya cintanya
Ayuh ambil si dia

Di antara gadis gadis seluruh dunia
Tiada yang sehalus mulus oh setulus dia
Di antara gadis gadis seluruh dunia
Tiada yang sehalus mulus oh setulus dia
Budi bahasanya, pandangannya dijaga
Kesucian jiwanya membuatku terlena"

and the winner is...with unanimous decision, from the red corner, Gadis Muslimah!

Malay isn't equal to Muslim
Muslim isn't equal to Malay

A Muslim is a Muslim
A Malay is a Malay

Islam is for ALL

* Gadis : Girl / Young Woman
Melayu : Malay
Hijab :

Veil. Often used to describe the head scarf or modest dress worn by women, who are required to cover everything except face and hands in the sight

p/s: I'm not perfect...just like every single human being in this planet (and the space station, to be fair)..so, let's work hard to improve ourselves...

BUKAN SEMUA MELAYU ITU ISLAM. DAN CONFIRM2 BUKAN SEMUA ISLAM ITU MELAYU.

Hello, sekarang bukan zaman dakwah islam itu secara sirri (rahsia), mmg lah dalam hati....tapi kalu kamu reveal the beauty of islam...itu lebih hebat dari gadis Mongolia pun..hehehhehe

tapi hidayah itu bukan hak milik setiap insan. kamu kene berusaha. (jangan fikir double meaning ok)

makin hari identity "Islam" makin di"merge"kan dgn identity "Melayu"..

its not good..but it doesnt seem like it can b avoided..drastic times call 4 drastic measures..

Salam... Nice article!
Tapi betulla, apa yg dikatakan tuan caracol. tak semua Melayu itu Muslim dan sebaliknya. The beauty of Islam tak semua mendalaminya.
