History...

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace Be Upon You)

Unlike Mozilla Firefox, life doesn't have "Clear recent history" option...

Thus, it is wise to be careful in making your own history...

What you do today can be used against you in the future...

Think before you throw.

...of love, pain, blood, and tears...

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)...

It finally arrived...
The day I sat for my final paper of my final semester as an undergraduate student...
I've been waiting for this moment to come...
I anticipated a lot of fireworks and fairytale-like ending...
I thought that I would jump and punch my fist high up in the air as soon as I'm out of the exam hall...

But it just didn't materialise...
There's a sense of indifference in me...
I felt nothing special...
It's just the same old day like before...

The barrier that stands beyond me and graduation is finally gone (almost...I have to wait for the exam result to come out)...
But still...
I felt empty...
No sense of excitement in me...
Not even one bit...

Probably because after almost six years in the comfort zone, I finally got out of it...
There's a whole new world standing in front of me...
A new horizon to be explored...
A new voyage...

Humans are afraid of the unknown...
I guess that's why I'm afraid...
Afraid of all the possibilities...
Afraid of what's waiting for me at the other side of the wall...

But..

Now it's not the time to think about what could've or should've been for the past 22 years of my life...
Now is the time to look ahead, think ahead, and hopefully, be ahead...

So long, undergrad life...

It's raining outside...

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)

On one rainy evening...

Monologue:
It's raining here, so it must be raining there also (referring to an open air futsal court located just a few blocks away)
Nobody's going to play in the rain. I think I'll just sleep...

Next morning...

Dialogue:
A: Hey, man, why didn't you play futsal yesterday? Only me and my friend showed up.
B: It's raining, man...right?
A: Nope...
B: Err...It was raining in my housing area, so I assumed it was also raining over there.

Moral of the story:

We can't just assume all the time...
Sometimes, we need to go out there and take a look by ourselves...

Coupled Reaction...

Assalamu'alaikum...

This is NOT an assignment-related entry...
This entry has got NOTHING to do with chemistry...

Dating is like chilling out at the edge of a cliff...
You can indulge in the relaxing wind...
Fantastic scenery...

BUT...
If you're not careful, you can fall off the cliff...

IF
you're already chilling out at the edge of the cliff, please be careful...

IF
you already fell and survive the fall, climb back up...
and stay away from the cliff...
It's not easy, but it's not impossible...

IF
you're thinking of going to the cliff for the first time...
think not ONCE, TWICE, or THRICE...
but think HARD...
Because the impact of the fall might kill you...

Remember...
You CAN always indulge in the relaxing wind and enjoy fantastic scenery somewhere safer...
The power is in your hand...

Never enough...

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)

When you see someone beautiful, you fell for her...
Then you see another beautiful girl...
You fell for her also...
The cycle continues on and on and on...

When you see a beautiful car, you want her...
Then you see another beautiful car...
You want her also...
The cycle continues on and on and on...

When you see your face in the mirror, you noticed a dark spot...
Then you see your face in another mirror...
You see another dark spot...
The cycle continues on and on and on...

The fact is:
You're a human...
Nothing is ever enough for you...

Ra's al Ghul...RasMol?

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)
Ra's al Ghul is the name of a villain in Batman...

But RasMol, according to Wikipedia is a computer program written for molecular graphics visualization intended and used primarily for the depiction and exploration of biological macromolecule structures, such as those found in the Protein Data Bank. It was originally developed by Roger Sayle in the early 90s.

Historically, it was an important tool for molecular biologists since the extremely optimized program allowed the software to run on (then) modestly powerful personal computers. Before RasMol, visualization software ran on graphics workstations that, due to their expense, were less accessible to scholars. RasMol has become an important educational tool as well as continuing to be an important tool for research in structural biology.

Here is an example of lexA protein on display using RasMol;

When SMILES mean more than a smile.

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)

Unfortunately, it's assignment-related post again...

SMILES (Simplified molecular input line entry specification) is a specification for unambiguously describing the structure of chemical molecules using short ASCII strings.

"What the....?"

Well, since a picture worth a thousand words, here are some of the pictures that might (or might not) help you understand what SMILES notation is...

(note: SMILES notation are the ones that are located below each chemical structure)

EXCEL-lent!

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)

Unfortunately, this blog needs to be used for assignment purpose (again)

Here are some of the "magic" of the "fantastic" software; Microsoft Excel:

The Magic of ChemSketch

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)

Are you tired of drawing chemical structures?
Need an easier and more interesting way to help you with your drawings?

If "Yes!" is your answer, ChemSketch is the answer to your prayers.

ChemSketch is designed to be used for drawing chemical structures, reactions, and schematic diagrams.

Here are some examples of ChemSketch magic:

Silent Treatment and Isolation...

Assalamu'alaikum (Peace be upon you)...

Human is a social creature...
We need each others' company...
That's why when someone is antisocial, he/she is considered as abnormal...

But what about silent treatment or isolation?
It is one of the worst type of punishment that it's being used against a serious offender in the prison...

Should we use it against certain people that we don't like?
Should they use it against us?
These are the ethical issues that demand answers...

One thing for sure, the person who is put under silent treatment can try to identify his/her wrongdoings and try to make amends...
or he/she can just ignore the silent treatment...
The second option sounds more convenient...

But for how long?

Just like ignoring the silent treatment itself, solving conflicts that you don't even know the cause is almost impossible...
Especially if it's a one-sided effort...

Life's so complicated, isn't it?

How Maple got it's name...

Once upon a time, there was a boy.
His name, Maple.

Optimistic, determined, hardworking, independent.
Those are not his qualities.
But, he's creative.

One day, he met two people at a food stall.
A guy and a girl.
They were arguing about Mathematics and ICT.
The guy stressed that Mathematics is better than ICT, whereas the girl argued that ICT is more important.

Then, Maple got an idea.
He proposed the idea of combining the two (Mathematics and ICT) into a much better and more important entity.

At first, they disagreed. But when they came to their senses, they eventually agreed.

Because of the original idea was Maple's, the pair decided to name the new entity "Maple".

Who could have thought that things like this could happen?

Future is made of dreams.

What The Fish!

Assalamu'alaikum...
and greetings to all fellow humans...

"What the fish!"
This isn't about a fish...
Whether it's sweet and sour, grilled, spicy or whatsoever (salivating mode)...
Instead, it's an expression used by someone I know to replace "What the f*ck!"
But hey, what's up with the fish? It sounds funny, right?

However, funny or not, the intended message is still "What the f*ck!"...

Some songs or TV shows tend to be censored when there's words such as "f*ck"...
However, depending on situation, the word "f*ck" doesn't necessarily mean "f*ck"...
Often, it is used as superlative...
e.g. "f*cking awesome", "f*cking hot"...

Well, it's good that people are trying to protect the young ones from the use of this vulgar word...
However, one must remember, many songs nowadays are carefully manufactured...
They don't contain the word "f*ck" but they're talking about the act of f*cking itself...
After all, all they care about is making money as it seems that sex sells...

I'm tired of listening to songs nowadays...
The quality is reduced in terms of the musical composition and the lyrical composition itself...
But this doesn't apply to all songs...
There are still good songs available...
If not on the radio, it's on the internet...

However, this is just an opinion...
It's better to use other words as superlative...
But, if I have to choose, I'd rather use "f*ck" as superlative than listening to songs about f*cking...

This is just my opinion...
Sorry for the use of vulgar words...
Oh...What the fish!

Here We Go Again: EPL VS Tarawikh...

Assalamu'alaikum...
Happy Fasting to all muslims and good day to non-muslim friends...

It's here, it's now...
It's Ramadhan again...
One full month of fasting during the days and tarawikh prayers during the nights...
That's just to name a few ibadah that you can do...
There are many others...
Even smiling is an ibadah...
Being nice to people is ibadah...
and the list goes on and on and on...

Apart from fasting, this month also indicate the beginning of a new
English Premier League Season (2010/2011)...
Normally, the match will be played during the nights (Malaysian time)...
The problem is, many of us are going to have Tarawikh prayer at night...
So, which one is it?
Tarawikh or EPL?

Yes, it's not compulsory, but hey, it's Ramadhan! all your deeds will be multiplied!
No one can guarantee that you'll live to see another Ramadhan...

For some (the best one, I guess), Tarawikh is the priority...
So, no EPL for these selected few...

As for some, maybe they will pray Tarawikh right after the game...
or maybe just before Sahur...
So, it's a win-win situation (maybe)...

For some, it's Tarawikh "off day" during the weekends...
Na'uzubillah...

The choice is yours!

The End is Just a Beginning...

Assalamu'alaikum...
Peace be upon all of you...

Never Again.
I'll slit my throat with the knife I pulled out of my spine.
Maybe when you find out that I'm dead
you'll realize what you did to me.

And if my lungs still let me breathe,
Would you be there for me?
If I can make myself believe,
I'll give you back what you took away.

No, I won't let it go.
Douse myself in gasoline!!
So don't save me when you come into the fire.
I'd rather die than have to see your smile.

And if my lungs still let me breathe,
Would you be there for me?
If I can make myself believe,
I'll give you back what you took away.

You made me swear
You made me swear
I, I can't sleep realize all these things that you took from me.
Smash my heart (you made me swear)
into dust (you made me swear)
Suffocate my mind (you made me swear)
Tear at me from inside (you made me swear)
Smash apart what you created.
How can I ever stop you from crushing my soul?
It was It was yours, yours to begin with.

And if my lungs still let me breathe,
Will you be there for me?
If I can make myself believe,
I'll give you back what you took away

That was the lyrics of a song entitled "Smashed into Pieces" by Silverstein...
Basically, it's about heartbreak...
In this song, the person who experienced the so-called heartbreak took it so hard that he/she feels like killing him/herself...

Why is this happening?
Is this the love that we're looking for?
There's nobody who can guarantee that he/she might be the one for us...
Save yourself for the rightful person...
The one that you are married to (not the one that you think you would marry someday)...

So, if any of you out there who are experiencing this so-called breakup right now, my message to you is simple;
"Cheer up, buddy! I bet God has better plans for you"

Here's a song to keep your chin up...

The Ataris - My Reply

I got your letter and the poetry you sent me
Postmarked in December of last year
I really hope you're doing better
All of your friends close by your side
One step closer to recovery

I wish there was something I could say
To erase each and every page that you've been through
Even though it's not my place to save you

I appreciate but can't accept this thank-you note
that's sealed with your last breath
I won't stand aside and listen to you give up

If you'll just hold on for one more second
Just hold on to what you have
If you'll just hold on, just hold on
You will wake up tomorrow

These arms remain stretched out to you
Maybe someday you'll accept them
Or maybe its too late to save a young girl's heart that's long stopped beating

Wake up, wake up you've gotta believe
Wake up, wake up you cant give up
Time keeps going on without us
Long after we're dead and gone

I wish there was something I could say
To erase each and every page
You've been through
Even though it's not my place to save you

I appreciate but can't accept this thank-you note
That's sealed with your last breath
I won't stand aside and listen to you give up

If you'll just hold on for one more second
Just hold on to what you have
If you'll just hold on, just hold on
You will wake up tomorrow

Yes We Can!

Assalamu'alaikum...
Don't get me wrong...
I'm not promoting America...or Obama...

Life's back to normal...
Spain has won the world cup...
The 1-0 scoreline did reflect the quality of the game...
It's a boring game...
(I'm an Argentina supporter)

But that's not the talking point in this entry.
"Yes We Can!" slogan can be seen during matches involving U.S.A.
It did reflect the nature of the U.S.A. soccer team;
they never gave up until the final whistle.
It's the quality that Germany and Turkey showed in Euro 2008.

Many people in this world (including me) are willing to wake up 2.30 am in the morning for the sake of watching a football match...
Be it the World Cup or Champions League...

But sadly, there aren't many who are willing to wake up on time for Fajr prayer or qiyamullail...
There are some who do not pray at all...
It's the ugly truth...
Face it...

Back to the U.S.A. slogan...
If we're able and willing to wake up early in the morning to watch football matches, why don't we start waking up early in order to pray Fajr or do qiyamullail?

As usual, the devil is involved in this matter...
But let's not blame him alone, we're stronger than that...
Let's prove it...
Yes We Can!

When All Else Fails...

Assalamu'alaikum...

When all else fails
When all hopes are gone
When there's no light at the end of tunnel

NO!

There's no such thing!
There's always another way.
There's always hope.
There's always light at the end of the tunnel.

He never fails us.
We just have to live according to His sets of rules
and BELIEVE...

InsyaAllah He'll show us the way...

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going

Who is "the tough"?
The one who goes to gym everyday?

Yes. No. Maybe.

"The tough" are the ones who don't give up on hope
The ones who keep on trying
The ones who always ask for His guidance and assistance.

He will never let us down
Guidance and assistance can appear out of nowhere
from the sources that we never expected

We just have to live with His rules.
After all, everything in this world is His,
including us.
and...again, BELIEVE...

He promised in Al-Qur'an that He will always answer His servants prayers.
Sometimes we just too preoccupied blaming our fate and destiny until we miss the benefit or hikmah behind everything, behind every life's problem.

Life's a test, after all.

Alien VS Predator...

No...No...No...
This isn't about "Alien VS Predator" movie...
You can politely leave through the door at the far corner.

Assalamu'alaikum...
It's been a while since someone say something in this web log (famously known as "blog")

I'd like to share the web definition of "Alien" and "Predator" (obtained from Google)

Alien: stranger (anyone who does not belong in the environment in which they are found)

In current situation, I think it is fair to say that someone who practises Islam in every aspects of his/her life can be considered as alien.

Alien???

Yes. Alien.

Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) reported:
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Islam began as something strange and will revert to being strange as it began, so give glad tidings to the strangers.”
narrated by Muslim (145)

Alien in this context is not the "Alien" that is portrayed as evil U.F.O. that will invade the earth, but "alien" in this context refers to the practice that is rarely practised nowadays.

Now, let's move to the second word, "Predator"

Predator: any animal that lives by preying on other animals

In this current situation, I think it is fair to say that someone who takes advantage on others' misfortune/weakness/disadvantage can be considered as predator.

For example, a male nurse who rapes a mentally-ill patient, bussinessman who cheats others only to make more money and the list goes on and on.

Being opportunistic isn't wrong...
But there's a fine line between opportunistic and predatory...

So, the question remains...
Alien VS Predator
Which side are you on?

"In Your Face!" statements....

Assalamu'alaikum...

Here are some of the statements that may hit us straight in the face...

1. You won't realise you're doing something wrong when you're doing it.

2. Sometimes you realise what you're doing is wrong but you pretend that it isn't.

3. After you did something wrong, you tend to regret your action...only to repeat it afterwards.

4. We insist women to cover their aurah while we're not covering our aurah properly.

5. We tell women to cover up and at the same time we do not lower our gaze.

6. Some women who wear hijab backbites women who doesn't.

7. "Don't judge a book by it's cover". But the thing is books with hard cover are more expensive than those with paperback.

8. We tend to tell people to do something that we don't do ourselves.

9. We are selfish.

10. We don't mention physical attractiveness in our Ideal Man/Woman criteria, but deep down inside, it's one of the first ten criteria.

* All these statements may or may not be true to everyone. It depends. Don't be too emotional with this post.

Be Thankful...

Assalamu'alaikum...

A guy went to one of the highest waterfall in Kuantan...
While swimming in the bottomless pool, his tired legs suddenly can't cope anymore...
He's sinking in the bottomless pool...
Drowning helplessly...
Until his friend noticed it and pushed him back up as he gasped for air...

He's alive...
After all the sins he's done, he's still alive...
Alive to reflect upon all those wasted years...

Be thankful for everything that you have now...
While you still have it...

Growing Up and Being a Grown Up...

Assalamu'alaikum...Peace be upon y'all...

Being grown up, isn't half as fun as growing up
These are the best days of our lives
The only thing that matters is just following your heart
and eventually you'll finally get it right...

That's what The Ataris sang in their song In This Diary, taken of the album So long Astoria (2003)

Growing up could be fun...
I mean, for kids who live in peace, harmony...
Not for kids who are haunted by terror etc...

For me, and most of us, probably, growing up is a wonderful time of my life...
I got to do what i love to do...
Play, play, play, play, play, play, and play...
Well, though I did have to study, I was carefree...
In fact I still am...
Maybe I'm not much of a grown up yet...
22 on the outside, teenager on the inside...

When I went for my Industrial Training in Sungai Buloh Hospital,
I came to realize that working is extremely exhausting...
I didn't have to do much back then...
Just sit and watch most of the time...
But still, I'm exhausted...Tired of repeating the same thing over and over again...

We're living in repetition.
Content in the same old shtick again.
Now the routine's turning to contention,
Like a production line going a over and a over and a over, roller coaster

Choreographed and lack of passion
Prototypes of what we were
Went full circle 'til I'm nauseous
Taken for granted now
I waste it, faked it, ate it, now i hate it

These are the lines from Redundant by Green Day

After the industrial training, I came to realize how tough it is for my mom and dad to go to work...
I mean, it's not for 1 day or 1 week, or 1 year, but it's for 10, 20, or 30 years of your life!
There's not much time for holidays...
Just pure work, and work, and work...

I hope that if I ever going to stuck forever at a job, please let it be the thing that I enjoy doing...

Apart from job, there are other responsibilities of an adult...
It's your turn to take care of parents after all of their BIG sacrifices for you...
Sometimes I wonder, mom and dad can raise 10 children,
but out of those 10 children, it's not guaranteed that 1 of them can take care of their parents...

Na'uzubillah...

Then, when you get married, your responsibilities become BIGGER...
Financially, time-wise, and many others...
You can't just continue behaving like you're still single...
You know, wake up at 3.45 am to watch Man United beat Chelsea in the Champions' League Final etc...
You have to think of your other half....and soon, your juniors!
Haha...Responsibilities....

You know, I think marriage isn't that easy...
Apart from the financial aspect, you're stuck with your partner for the rest of your life!
It's not like a year or two...
If you live long, maybe it's gonna be up to 30-40 years...
Who knows?
Good luck with that!
I'm not trying to scare you...
Marriage is a good thing...if you marry for all the right reasons...
such as to get the Ridha of Allah...
If you get married for all those right reasons, insyaAllah everything will turn out fine...

What you can do right now is...
Live your life to the fullest!
I'm not saying you should do drugs, drink alcohol, be a playboy etc...
Just make use of your youth time wisely...

Life is only as good as the memories we make...
(So Long Astoria by The Ataris.)

We live in this temporary life only to prepare ourselves for the next life which is endless,
so make the most of it...
Don't let you regret your fate in the next life...
Your life, your choice!

Dreams...

Assalamu'alaikum...

Dreams...

There are loads of dream "genre":
Happy, Sad, Scary (Nightmare), Suspense, Thriller, RPG? FPS?

You can have a beautiful dream...
So beautiful that you end up waking up smiling...
You know...THAT smile...

You can also have the most scariest nightmare and end up waking up at 3 a.m. early in the morning terrified...Sweaty...Heart pounding...heavily...

Some may continue sleeping just to continue that wonderful dream...

Some can control their dreams while some cannot...

When I say "control their dreams", it means that the person can initiate the dream he/she wanted...But once the dream started, he/she cannot control it anymore...

I used to be 1 of those...
But not anymore...
I lost my ability...

But dreams...Only possible in our sleep...
Or in our own fantasy world...

Reality is not that beautiful...
It's not that scary as our nightmares either...

There's nothing wrong with dreaming...
As long as you stay in touch with reality...
You can get the most out of your dream by working hard to accomplish it...

Impossible is nothing
Just do it
Shift the future
like.no.other
Unlike any other

Dreams can get your feet off the ground
Until you won't notice what's around
Even the world's turned upside down
It's your dreams that really count

Dream on...

Humans...

Assalamu'alaikum...

I woke up this morning only to realize that it's already 2010...

Just before I sleep, I remember it's still 2009...
Man, time really flies by!

Humans...
We love to condemn others...
and at the same time, approving our not-so-good actions...

We love to give green light to the things that we do, and red light to the things that we never engage in...or not engage in anymore...

Simple example, if we have a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, we tend to say
"it's okay...as long as you don't cross the borderline..."

Even though we know the fact is, it isn't allowed in Islam, we tend to close 1 eye simply because we're doing it...

We tend to give some "reasoning"

On the other hand, if we do not engage in boyfriend-girlfriend relationship or we already stop doing it, it's much easier to give the red light to others...

It's simply because of the nature of human;

we are selfish in a way

Boyfriend-girlfriend relationship is just an example...
There are a lot of other issues being treated the same way...
Just because we're humans...

P/S: I'm a human too
